Tournament Season Level Fishing Happening Now in Puerto Vallarta!

Once you enter the middle of October anywhere within 400 miles of Puerto Vallarta, north or south, you’ll find the best conditions for fishing for the entire year. Cabo had two tournaments the last week including the Bisbee’s Black and blue. A week earlier, there was the Los Cabos Tournament sponsored by Marlin Magazine. Soon we’ll have the Pez Vela Tournament coming up here in mid November (www.fishvallarta.com for details) which is always a big local hit and this year marks the 55th year this tournament has been running. The point being these locations schedule tournaments when fishing is at its best! With Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, Marlin and Dorado all firing right now you can only imagine how good conditions are right now for the angler looking for a trophy. But the fishing grounds are still deserted, a lingering effect of the bad economy up north, but for those heading out, the best fishing grounds in the world can be yours almost alone!

With that as a lead at El Banco or The Bank, we are still seeing Yellowfin Tuna in the 60 to 200 lb range, but mostly in the 70 to 100 lb range with the occasional taking live bait. Now that we´ve moved out of the Full Moon cycle the Yellowfin Bite is coming on stronger and should continue to increase for the next few days anyway. The Bite for now for tuna is early morning and later in the afternoon, blog readers are always up to date on the bite times.  Black, Blue Marlin are in the area but those looking for Marlin are better off keeping in closer to shore for the simple reason the bait is there!, there are very few baits that marlin like better! Anywhere from 8 to 15 miles off the point of Punta Mita you will find Marlin in the 250 to 500 lbs. With the Bullet Skip Jack Tuna running all over the place this is one of the hot spots to be amigos!  This same area has been producing Dorado as well in the 20 to 45 lb range, mostly in the 30’s… Still, if you are looking for Yellowfin, hit the high spots!

Corbeteña this week has been working mainly Sailfish. Yellowfin Tuna have been boated but they’re running smaller here than at El Banco.  Still on the slow side, Yellowfin Tuna Hunters would be better off hitting El Banco. There are still Marlin in the area, but in diminished numbers. Magnifico came in with a Blue Marlin on the 400 lb side, but they were being Magnifico! Water has been blue, the murky conditions of last week have improved, but the seasons are changing so don´t be surprised if this changes without warning. Remember bait outside the bay is still an issue so make sure you make bait when you can. Even a dazed bait that has been in a tuna tube for too long is better than no bait at all. Cubera Snappers are taking trolled baits here as well and many ignore the Cuberas. Running in the 65 lb range, these taste great and fight well!

El Morro and the Marietta Islands are in automatic these Days. Snappers to 35 lbs, some smaller Rooster fish in the 30 to 40 lb range are at the Reefs between El Morro and the Marietta Islands. But these reefs are protected so be careful. Needle fish, Pompano, Jack Crevalls and more are hanging out off the reefs. For a shorter day, the fishing has been fantastic. With some luck you´ll run into Sailfish and midsized Dorado to 30 lbs as well. Well worth your time and fuel money.

At the Punta Mita area, down to the Sayulita area the Dorado are still the resident species. Find a buoy or log and you can hit the jack pot amigos! Dorado to 45 lbs have been boated this week, Sailfish are also hanging out so be prepared. Again Marlin are about ten miles off the point, mix in a dash of luck and anything is possible there right now!

The bay is rocking right now. With the seasonal rains ending early this year the water in the bay for the most part is clean! Up near the La Cruz marina there have been Sailfish in the 90 lb range taking baits a short distance off the beach. Near Los Arcos Red Snappers are in the 30 lb range. Skip Jack Tuna are also there in the 25 to 40 lb range and they´re big fighters! Most people are surprised how strong even a smaller fish like this can fight. Again, live bait is king, but casting a silver diamond jig close to rocks off the shoreline will put your arms to the test!

Something to keep an eye on if heading out, the water temperatures are in the 85 degree range and this may get the Yellowfin to head down, have planers and down riggers along with your kites at the ready.  Could make you day amigo. Look for the temperature breaks on your fish finders and sounders!

Marina Tip: We have this new restaurant in the village called Rio’s D Sudamerica that serves Peruvian food that will knock your socks off! Mostly a ceviche, the dishes are light, tasty and healthy. The owners have turned into friends of mine since I eat there almost every night! You may find me there! YeHa!

One final word, Whales have been spotted in the bay, so keep an eye out and remember to be careful around these magnificent animals…..

Until next week, don´t forget to kiss your fish!

Everyone who walks in my shop door wants to catch fish and don´t want to be stuck on another slow boat to China. Well at this time of the year the fishing is about as good as it is going to get for the season. But that doesn´t mean you´ll always come in with fish! There are days when you can head out and the fishing is incredible and still not find a fish to take your bait. I guess that is why we still call it fishing, the risk of not catching a fish makes catching just that much sweeter! Now all my boats this week came in with fish, but on some days you take what you can get and the frustration of not getting the exact fish you targeted is just part of the game. More the exception than the rule, but always a possibility.

This week we have seen the scarce bait conditions continue. But this only makes the fish hungrier as they take what they can get. This is when live and fresh bait is worth it´s weight in gold. The good news is the bay is teaming with bait like Bonito, Skip Jacks, and Mackerals. This means you can offer live bait to your target species and have a better than average chance of boating that finned fantasy. So my suggestion is if you see bait boils on the way out, get what you can and stuff them in those expensive tuna tubes you paid for! But if for some reason you can´t make bait this week, it´s not the end of the world. Lures of Black and Yellow, Pink Tiger prints, Purple are all working as well. Just not as well as live bait!

Corbeteña this week, the water cleared up a little and the Sailfish and Dorado have returned to the area just a little north of the Rock. Dorado in the 35 lb range have been plentiful, Sailfish are increasing in numbers now as we enter the time of year they vacation in our world class fishing grounds. Black Marlin in the 400 to 800 lb range are still in the area as are Blue Marlin. Water Temperatures are fluctuating with the change in the currents, but this is not much of a concern for the moment as the fish don´t mind.

El Banco as I have said a thousand times is the place to be again this week. With the water still blue Yellowfin are still in the area around the high spots. For those of you who don´t know, El Banco is an underwater mountain where there are two spikes like peaks that jutt up are at 65 and 58 feet below the surface of the water. I like to refer to this area as a Marlin McDonalds as species set up house for the fishing season. With all the bait that this area attracts the fishing is always good in the summer to Early January. So if you have a few extra bucks, there is still time for you to join in the action. Continuing on, the area is still on fire.  Yellowfin Tuna in the 80 to 160 lb range have been a little ¨On again / Off Again¨ situation, but at least surface trolling is working. Remember to keep an eye on the water temperatures and have a down rigger at the ready.  My boats this week are also running kites, with scarce bait this can make a lost day and found opportunity. Black Marlin to 800 lbs, Blue Marlin in the same range, Dorado in the 30 – 45lb range, Rainbow runners, Sailfish, Cubera Snappers, Amber Jacks and a host of others are all there waiting for you to show up. The water here this week was a little murky like Corbeteña, but has cleared up and is a nice shade of Blue Water!

At the Marietta Islands this week we have seen the action mostly around the area where the reefs are. Sailfish are finally moving into the area and with abundant bait the area has drawn Sails in like a magnet. Rooster fish in the 35 lb range have been taking baits, but there are not that many Roosters right now running in the area. Bonito, Snappers and Big Eyes have all been running 30 to 45 lbs, with the Bonito being larger than you would expect…   Live bait is still king, but lures are working well also. Just remember to stay off the reefs; this can cost you more than money amigos!

Punta Mita is warming up again as Sails and Dorado move back just off the point to 8 miles out. There were a few days there where for some reason the fish deserted this normally hot location. No telling why, but they´re coming back so no worries. North of the point near Sayulita you can still boat Roosters as well, but not like a few weeks ago.

As I mentioned earlier, inside the bay there is plenty of baitfish. This in turn has drawn in some Sailfish as well. When this happens anywhere from Yelapa north to Buceras can produce these in demand Billfish. Yelapa just a few days past had boats coming in with 35 lb Bonito, which are large and will tear your arms off. With Roballo still at the river mouths and snapper around the rocks and shores, the bay is still worth your attention. Especially for those looking to catch fish and are short on budget!

Now remember, if you are reading this article and planning a trip, things can change in a heartbeat. By the time you plan your trip and get here three weeks later, everything can change. So keep up with my articles and blogs and feel free to fire me an email at any time with questions of the local conditions and bite….

Speaking of the bite, the clock seems to be set right now for 9 to 12 and from 2 on in the afternoon. So use your fuel dollars wisely. As we get closer to the full moon, if you’re targeting Tuna you’ll have to hit the fishing ground, not leave for the fishing grounds about sun up… the bit happens earlier at the full moon, later at the new moon… keep this in mind amigos!

Remember, we have our Tournament coming up in November and it promises to be the wonderful event we´ve all come to expect. Prize money this year is still high with free cars and boats being offered to the lucky winners out there! If you are looking for a boat, Master Baiter´s doesn´t double its boat prices and we always have new line and fresh drags on our reels. We also have great prices on our boats, just slightly over our normal daily rate to account for the long, long days and the extra fuel usage. Magnifico is available with other boats if interested. So call me before someone else gets the deal. Magnifico won the Pez Vela Tournament in 2007 with Master Baiter´s, maybe you can too….. For more information go to: www.fishvallarta.com and get the details!

If you find yourself in Puerto Vallarta make sure you visit The Village at Marina Vallarta. The Village in Marina Vallarta is scheduling all sorts of events in the weeks and months ahead. Quickie Report: Dorado Desert Punta Mita, Making Bait is Difficult, Marlin Still at El Banco, Yellowfin Tuna running 100 lbs

Quickie Report:  Dorado Desert Punta Mita, Making Bait is Difficult, Marlin Still at El Banco, Yellowfin Tuna running 100 lbs

You know they say what goes up, must come down. After a couple of solid weeks of Mahi Mahi at Punta Mita, they have deserted the area for the moment. I had a boat head out the other day targeting Dorado and couldn´t find one for nothing. So keep your ears on and before you head out check the reports on the docks or call / email me for the latest info….

Corbeteña just a few days ago was an expensive waste of time, but now Sails have moved into the Area and there have been some 100 lb Yellowfin Boated at the rock. Black and Blue Marlin are here as well… The water is still a little murky, but getting better. More on this in a few more paragraphs, stay tuned….

El Banco is still the place to be with larger Yellowfin Tuna at or over 100 lbs, Black marlin, Sailfish and good sized Dorado…

There is plenty of bait in the water, that is until you get out of the bay, then it may be an issue to be able to make / catch fresh bait. This has been the case for the last few days. But this is normal, the bait comes in, the fish follow, the bait  get s eaten, then the fish will hang for a while, but if there is no food, their stomachs will do the thinking.

At times like this a boat that does not have Tuna Tubes will be at a disadvantage. And if you paid for a boat with no electronics and tuna tubes, then no matter how good a deal you got, you paid for nothing amigo. Be sure you know your boat and the captain. It all makes a difference and at some point the deal is not worth the price…. I always say fishing charter companies are like street hookers, there is always one that is cheaper on the next corner, but at some point, the quality you want will conflict with the price …. At some point you understand you will never get more than you pay for.

It looks like the seasonal rains may be coming to an end now. We’ve gone two weeks now with no measurable rain and the days have been hot. Humidity is dropping by the day and the mornings to me, as an acclimated person living in PV has been a little on the chilly side before the sun comes up. I actually had a thought of wearing long sleeves around the Marina. Just another indication that the seasons are changing.

Another indication is the f act the currents are already starting to turn causing upwelling and in turn this will leave a bad taste in a fish’s mouth so to speak. So they move into clean water which explains the conditions at Corbeteña the last few days. But like I said, the water is improving and in a day or two everything will be back to it´s outrageous self!

As I mentioned  earlier, Water conditions have improved, it’s not exactly clean, more on the lightly murky side, so you can catch fish, but the conditions could be better. We’ll have to wait and see what happens. The good news is the water temperatures are in the favorable range which is nice and keeps the fish on the surface. For now the need for down riggers has gone away. Kites are working, but again, they are taking surface trolled baits, why get fancy when you don´t have to. Besides dealing with a kite can be a hassle anyway…

We are also seeing more and more demand for fishing boats daily . October and November are always high demand months, but we had no clue what to expect this year. The cool weather in the northern parts of the States and in Canada have been unseasonably cold. For that reason we are seeing more visitors, earlier this  year than normal. The timeframe around Thanks Giving is getting kinda full. So no matter who you go fishing with, make sure you reserve early. The better boats always get reserved first. The second rate boats are always available for less money. So keep this in mind and don´t get stuck…

Don’t forget to make sure you come and visit the Village in Marina Vallarta when in Puerto Vallarta. With a huge restaurant row with all sorts of food, there are shops and services of all kinds.  The Village is walking distance to anything and everything you could need or desire. If you want to get across town six and a half pesos will get you on the bus into town…. So keep the Village in mind and check it out. Take a walk on the board walk as it winds around the Yachts, Sailing boats and Fishing boats. Watch the fishing boat s come in with their daily catch and marvel at how big a fish can actually get! Every catch a fish bigger than your car, well you can here and now!

There are crazy deals out there right now to get you to Puerto Vallarta, right now you can afford to get excited with the low air fares and cheap hotel rooms.

Just a reminder, Nuevo Vallarta is not Puerto Vallarta. So when reserving a hotel remember the Westin, Marriott Casa Magna, Velas Vallarta, Mayan Palace and the Melia are all hotels in Marina Vallarta, in Puerto Vallarta Proper. With the heavy rains and the bridges falling in the rivers, making the extra effort to focus on these hotels will save you time in traveling to where the action and tours are, not to mention taxi  fares that seem to get more expensive by the week….

Dirty water finds Corbeteña, Action Moves to El Banco, Dorado explode at Punta Mita, Bait Scarce

Dirty water finds Corbeteña, Action Moves to El Banco, Dorado explode at Punta Mita, Bait Scarce

When it comes to fishing, at this time of the year there is good, then there is Really Good, and then there is great.  Right now we have slid back to their ¨Really Good¨ conditions. The abundant bait last week has either been eaten or moved on with the currents.   Of course this is creating challenges, improvise and adapt is the nature of big game fishing for sure, Nothing ever happens the way it is supposed to, it´s not an exact art to say the least! There are still lots of fish bigger than your car to target, but it’s not like fishing in a barrel at the moment. Keep an eye on those who come in with fish. This is when the equipment, experience can create your ¨luck¨  fishing that amigos!  This is World Class fishing at its finest and it´s within your reach.

Let’s just jump in, Corbeteña has gone from firing on all cylinders to a sputtering engine this week. With murky water, just on the verge of being dirty, the action came to a halt. Those hitting the rock the last few days have found Marlin and Yellowfin have deserted the area for the most part. There were a few hook ups, while El Banco was Hook-Up City! Those I know fishing Corbeteña came in with a mostly Dorado in the 35 lb range, but that was hitting he trash line that we were lucky enough to have. Some Sailfish, Striped and Blue Marlin were there in weak numbers. Bait was nowhere to be found and they were not hitting lures! Like I said, it went from hot one day to freezing the next.  Now this can change in the next ten minutes, so keep your ears on!

By now you get the idea that if you wanted to boat something trophy worthy you had to hit El Banco. Where bait was difficult to make at Corbeteña, El Banco was a little better.  The area was wide open, not only on the high spots but in the surrounding area. There were more boats out this week as October is one of the busiest fishing months of the year. Everything was hitting live bait, but there were some lure hits of black and purple, Yellow and Black combinations were working well also. But not like live bait. The Malin were hitting in some cases over 700 lbs down to 250 lbs. Where you could expect at least four strikes a day, you may have only one when it comes to a Marlin. Yellowfin Tuna have decreased a little and are now running in the 80 to 200 lb range with the bulk of them being boated are in the 80 lb range. Sailfish are also in the area, but they are not as abundant as last week. Last week was incredible and those lucky enough to be on the water experienced some arm breaking action. We are now in the middle of the fishing season and these days are not the exception. As a rule we will continue to see this world class action into late December, so no worries, they´re out there, you may have to work a little for them, but you´ll get them. One thing that kinda hindered the number of fish on the docks was the time the bite has been happening. If you’re on the high spots around five in the afternoon, then you were at the right place at the right time. Before the late afternoon and it was mostly hit and miss. With boats leaving the marina before seven in the morning, that means you´ll be leaving El Banco when the bite is just coming on. This is why you need to keep track of when the bite is happening. Without this information and thinking earlier is better many times will bite you in the butt and the fishing trip when heading out just an hour or so later would insure you return with a trophy. So let that be your tip of the week, know when the bite is happening, maximize your fishing dollar, and increase your fun factor by being in the right place at the right time.

These past weeks down riggers were not an Issue since the water temperatures have been hanging in the perfect range of 82 to 86 degrees. Currents are presently in the process of changing which means we can see upwelling’s or dirty water currents coming in. This also means water temperatures can drop a little also, so go prepared for any circumstance. Even though we have not seen many using kites so far this year, it doesn´t mean they aren´t working. One thing for sure, if you don´t have it, you’ll need it.  Dorado are in the area ranging from 25 to 40 lbs. If you are targeting Dorado, there are closer locations to hit maximizing your fishing bucks amigo… read on.

Dorado have moved into the area and mostly taken over Punta Mita. A lot late to arrive in any size this year, Punta Mita has turned into a Dorado Machine.  They are hitting live baits for the most part, but will not discriminate if they see a tasty little lure.  Running anywhere from 25 to 45 lbs the average has been in the 30 lb range. From the point around to Sayulita has been the place to be.  Roosterfish have taken a powder it seems this week.  The come and they go, and there are some still out there around the rocks and structure like they like. I would target other species for the moment. Sailfish are also here at Punta Mita, about eight miles off the point. Not exactly plentiful, like Elvis, they have left the building for now, but will return, you can count on that!

The area around the Marietta Islands and the reefs remain productive. Mostly boating Bonito to 35 lbs, Snappers to 35 lbs, some Rooster fish in the 30 lb range, Smaller Dorado and Needle fish, you´ll have a fun day.  Some amberjacks have been boated, but incidental catches mostly. For my money, you´re better off hitting Punta Mita for the same timeframe, you´ll have better results.

The bay is it´s normal summer fishing.  Plenty of smaller fish, with the occasional surprise like a Sailfish off Yelapa. For the most part those looking for a short day will still catch Roballo in front of the river mouths, Snapper, Skip Jack Tuna, Bonito and other assorted species.  Still worth the time, but when you have the larger fish at your finger tips it´s probably better to find someone and partner up for a longer day on a shared boat. Talk to your concierge to see if they have parties that may be interested in hooking up and coming in with Moby Dick….

As the season suggest, we are now in the middle of High Season for Fishing. The demand for boats is finally going up, along with the price of fuel and anything that has the word ¨marine¨ on it.  You can find the price you like, but make sure you understand what exactly that product is, it may be different than your expectations.  If things like fresh line, smooth drags, fast boats, plenty of bait and a worth captain  mean anything to you, then you will be paying for this on a full service tournament ready boat. If the boat is less than this, you will be paying less. Also unsured and unlicensed boats are cheaper also, but you won´t know they’re unlicensed and uninsured, they won´t tell you. These boats are now being screened and stopped when heading out in the morning. You may find you got a cheap price on a boat that is being confiscated for operating an illegal fishing charter company. When this happens the Captain will be arrested and the clients will be released at the naval station. You will lose your money and have to deal with an unpleasant and tense situation on your part. Now you will never be threatened or challenged, but you will lose your money and your day on the water. So make sure you know who you are dealing with and that they have the necessary papers for safety, operation and insurance…. Know your vendor!

BloodyDecks PV Agenda, Destroy the competition, Fill the void with the Bloody Decks Sportfishing Company?

For years now Master Baiter’s has been the premiere fishing Charter Company in Puerto Vallarta, everyone already knows this and we have been in more magazines than all of my competition put together.  From the day we opened we were considered by many in Puerto Vallarta as the enemy for just opening our doors. After we won the WBS Billfishing Series Grand Championships (The U.S. Open for fishing) in 2000 & 2001 we were the ones on top!  With all the business we were getting, we still gave our overflow business to other Marina fishing business to help them as well. Naturally we made money on these charters as well, but we shared the wealth without bad-mouthing anyone. Even then there was plenty of finger pointing and bad mouthing about Master Baiter´s though, even from the same people we were feeding work to! Such is the environment in the fishing industry in Puerto Vallarta, even those you think are friendly towards you, are sticking you any way they can.

Years later nothing has changed, but it seem the loudest and most aggressive group of finger pointers these days are coming from Bloody Decks contributors with the sites blessings. I could never figure out how a Bulletin Board on steroids could be such an enemy of Master Baiter´s since nobody there ever met me or even cared to meet me. But their eager volunteers, the Bloody Decks Taliban as I call them, are all too happy, even to this day to point a finger at Master Baiter´s and make slanderous comments. In general the Taliban will do everything they can to keep people from looking at Master Baiter´s in a favorable light. I ALWAYS figured it was because the Skate boarders who opened this free, unregulated bulletin board on the net were friends of certain individuals in the Puerto Vallarta Marina and they were just some sort of guys club for the locals to rag on each other. That was even fine, they still talked about  us (Master Baiter´s)  like dogs, but hey, nothing new there!  So I just ignored another fishing bulletin board on the internet.

Then came those with the serious accusations that I, Master Baiter´s was embezzling peoples money!  When I went on the Bloody Decks website and called out these big mouths with no facts, the site responded by banning me from posting on the site so the truth could not get out and the slander could go on unobstructed and the Taliban could rule their domain with no interruptions for things like the facts or the truth. The Taliban could preach their gospel to the willing and unsuspecting. That is until they try to post something about their fishing trip. So now they all could say anything, at any time, about my company and I was unable to respond to those flat out self seving lies that supported some of the local businesses they considered friends who were in the click. With what I have learned in the last few weeks and now knowing what I NOW KNOW, I understand… really I do.

Now everyone knows I am no fan of Bloody Decks, Bloody Dicks is what many call them, but I could never understand how or why the site would go unregulated and unrestricted in their lies and toxic comment s. That was until last week when I got some interesting news.

It appears that Bloody Decks is getting into the Sportfishing business here in Puerto Vallarta. The Bulletin board on Steroids hits the water to save the Puerto Vallarta Anglers from themselves by offering them the best boats, captains, equipment, etc. Puerto Vallarta has to offer(or so I would expect).  I can see the articles now. So here´s the deal, there has been an effort to get several of the Bloody Decks Favorite sons to come and become part of the new company being formed in Nuevo Vallarta. I guess the few putting this together have made an arrangement with the Paradise Village owner Graziano Sovernigo. Mr. Sovernigo owns the hotel or rather Time Share Hotel, Paradise Village and the attached marina in Nuevo Vallarta. As the owner of the marina he had total control which included having the only charter company that operated out of the Nuevo Vallarta Marina, again that he controlled.  Known mostly as a sailboat Marina since there is no boat yard or fuel dock, you still have to come to Marina Vallarta or the La Cruz Marina to fill up. But it appears that Mr. Sobvernigo is allowing Bloody Decks, or rather those using the name and the bulletin boards influence to start a new operation out there.

Now the Bloody Boys have been hitting up their favorite sons to come join the ¨Club¨. But the ones who use the site to promote their businesses for free don´t want the attachment. You see The Bloody decks guys have been telling would be partners (if that is what you want to call them) to come and join them with the usual Cheers and promises of big money.  At the same time they are being told by Bloody Decks that they will naturally have to take less for their boat so they can make a healthy commission.  Also, that all their charters have to come through the Bloody Decks reservation system, even their long time clients. And on top of that, they have to be exclusive to Bloody Decks which means they would basically control the flow of their charter business and the money they would make. For some reason these guys (the captains and boat owners)have not exactly been lining up to be abused by giving these guys their long term clients and get less money from a business they already have set up? So why would you as an up and running established fishing business owner want to hand over your business to a group of start-ups at best with no clientele? I mean why would anyone want to do that, but that is what they are expecting those who want to bask in the light of the Bloody Decks Bulletin Board to do!  You know I DON´T GET SOMETHING, if the Bloody Decks Taliban are ¨ all that and a bag of potato chips¨, why don´t they buy  their own boats and hire some of these great captains they have all this praise and worship for?  I mean is this a real operation or is this just a guy or group of guys using the Bloody Decks name with some unknown boats and captains trying to dominate the fishing charter business? Well, that is exactly what this operation is and I know the boats they will be using or I should say who they got them believe their preaching’s , ¨drinking the juice¨ so to speak. One person, no names, has been quietly asking several boat captains, most are Bloody Decks favorite sons, to come and be part of their company.  Of course the previous conditions apply and there have been a few responses.  When it is all said and done, the real deal here is the Bulletin Board Bloody Decks has no money to support this effort. So another broke operation under the guise of Bloody Decks opens their doors.

The boats that are so far part of this new Bloody Operation are boats that have been for sale and can´t sell a charter. One unnamed business on the malicon in Marina Vallarta that opened at the beginning of Summer has agreed to make their boats available to Bloody Decks as they close their dieing business doors and hook-up woth Bloody Decks.  These boats that are of good quality and crews adequate, but  they never get any business. One person I am thinking of is a bright guy, but he´s a captain and business owner himself who is working for another guy on a full time gig running his fishing boat.  So even the guy setting up this operation will not be the guy running the show! I mean really, there is no nailed down and responsible type that will be running this business from an ownership point of view which makes them little more than employees.  Right now you could have these same boats for less money here in Marina Vallarta! Looking at things from experience and from an owners perspective, this venture is lost before it starts.

I also know there must be some reason Mr. Sovernigo would allow these people to do what they are doing and it all comes down to business. That’s right, if you are not getting hit up for a timeshare presentation while fishing on these boats, then he is an idiot and frankly this is the only reason Mr. Sovernigo would agree to this since fishing operations contrary to popular belief are not money making operations! Besides, the money this operation would produce would not be enough to go to the trouble of dealing with other-wise. Mr. Sovernigo is in the time share business, this is supporting his company  bringing in a fresh flow of clients who want to get a cheap charter and rope them intointo a six hour presentation in a Paradise Village Timeshare sales rooms!! You can take that to the bank! So there you have it, Bloody Decks has aligned themselves with a few boats that couldn´t get their business off the ground, a Timeshare Operation gimmick and a Devoted Taliban to get the word out. And the whole time they are out there talking themselves up, who do you think they´ll be pointing fingers at? … funny stuff….

Now if you take the money pie and start slicing it all up, you have an interesting deal for sure. Bloody Decks will want their share, so take that slice away. Mr. Sovernigo definitely wants his slice of that pie and then he gets the extra slice of getting these folks into yet another timeshare scam with fishing boats thanks to Bloody Decks.  So Mr. S gets two slices of this pie. Then of course the guy running the show needs his slice, the sales agent (if there was an agent involved) will want his slice and of course the company needs the major slice of the pie to pay for offices, internet, phones, you know, the normal business operations expenses. Now remember the company can only make money if the guy who actually owns and operates the boat takes it in the shorts or worse!  That is one hell of a Mexican Plan!  The guy doing all the work gets the smallest part of the pie and will have to pay for maintenance, fuel, employees, docks, water and the list goes on. It´s ridiculous and comical from my point of view.

So I now understand why the Bloody Decks site is so hell bent on letting those ¨ loose mouth cannons ¨  with unregulated opinion(s) spout off about Master Baiter´s! They have an AGENDA! That´s right folks, the famous agenda that Bloody Decks Denies is hanging out there in front of you! For a company full of people I never met and don´t know, it all starts to make sense to me now. It´s like deciding to invade a country, you don´t send the troops in until you´ve bombed the place into oblivion, soften up the battle field for the invasion! So Bloody Decks after doing everything it can to put ¨unworthy¨ fishing companies out of business with bad mouthing tactics to look superior If you are perceived as bad, then you will suffer the slings and arrows of uneducated people with an axe and an agenda to grind.

So what now is this site all about?  Promoting fishing in Puerto Vallarta, promoting it´s own company, what?  I mean as the scenarios run through my head I have to laugh at this whole thing, seriously. Does that mean the guys who used to be their bread and butter are now their now their competition?  Does that mean the favorite sons now stop posting on Bloody Decks since they, the Bulletin board with competing boats is now their competition? I mean it all seems like a conflict of interest to me.  Where does this all go now?  Timeshare, Taliban, Bloody Decks favorite sons, Competing operations, personalities, and in the end it will all come down to what it always comes down to, Customer service, a  good product at a fair price, and a business reputation based on happy clients.

Now that Bloody Decks is the competition, those same favorite sons who have been pretty much using this free Bloody Decks bulletin board exclusively to drum up clientele and now they´re the competition?!  Most of these Captains and boat owners have no other avenues (money or brain power) to promote their company anywhere other than a free bulletin board? Sure they have a web page and a fishing report declaring they are of course the king of world. Then they can declare how you can forget about fishing with Master Baiter´s now that they are here to save your fishing day and fishing future in Puerto Vallarta. I guess we all should take our queue and pack up while we can, again.

In the last year there have been nine different fishing companies in Marina Vallarta and surrounding area go out of business. Some of them have been here as long as Master Baiter´s. Others were for the most part another guy looking to live in Margarita Ville, open a charter fishing company and then live the Jimmy Buffett lifestyle in paradise. But again, nine more companies went belly up this year after two of the worst years in history. And they keep coming, each declaring their superiority, their superior knowledge / Experience, their superior captains, boats and the crap is endless.

There naturally is much more to this developing story, but for now I will sit back and watch it all play out as the Bloody Decks Bulletin Board becomes the next Timeshare Sportfishing fiasco as they kick in their high gear bad-mouthing.  Other than Master Baiter´s, who are they going to bad mouth now, the guys they used to love? And the Bloody Decks Faithful, do they now stop fishing with the guy s they used to fish with as the Bloody Decks favorite sons or is the new company better than those they were promoting? I mean really… how this all fits together is going to be like watching a slow movie as this all progresses.

One simple thought, as you go out and visit Bloody Decks and read what they will have to say about this article, look at those who are writing these negative and toxic comments. It´s always the same guys banding together ganging up on some guy who wants to share his experience. FYI, the bloody decks boys in the past have copied and pasted my articles with changes they added or deleted to fit their purpose, so this will probably be the issue once more, so keep an eye out for that on the site… I can´t post, so if you see a post by or from master baiters, it´s not original copy…..

As far as this article on my own blog, which they hate they can´t control, I already know I will receive many emails threatening me in several ways, some to do harm, others to tell the world what a horrible company I am. Why would they stop now, yet they still cannot produce one person who will step up to the plate and publically denounce me or my company from anytime in the last six years or more.  Accusations are easy to make when you can make them on a public site like Bloody Decks. The cyber world equivalent of a guy with a spray can painting his tag on your garage door.

I have one question for Bloody Decks, if Master Baiter´s is such a horrible company, why is it I am still in business and still putting out happy customers every single day? Why is it in all your efforts I do more business than all your favorite sons put together? How is it I still have the only business that will still guarantee you catch a game fish for the same money they charge or less?  Why is that?  And if you can find one person in at least six years that will tell you, with proof, no more bloody dicks lies, that I DID NOT REFUND THEIR MONEY, I WILL PUNCH THEM IN THE NOSE IF THEY HAVE THE BONES TO COME TO ME AND MY FACE AND PRESENT THEMSELVES AS A VICTUM!

My name is Stan Gabruk, owner of Master Baiter´s Sportfishing and Tackle. I am proud of my company and the thousands and thousands of happy customers that come back fishing with us every year. I am still here ready to stand up to the comments that are lies and misrepresentations by those with Agendas.

You see I have quite a following and I publish my articles in several locations including delivered magazines in the states to paying clients who are looking for my insights and information. Some I even pay to write for them, but then again, you need money to post in sites where the professionals actually read and gain credibility in the industry. Bloody Decks is a rag of a site and now they are going into the fishing business. I could never see Marlin Mag doing something like this, but then again that is a first class publication, not a NO CLASS BULLETIN BOARD! My suggestion to you Bloody Decks, keep in an industry you have a nitch in, writing about what other people do.  I could never imagine a publication on the internet or in magazine form to compete with all the other fishing companies in PV. It kills what you are about for one thing and it makes you look foolish as you lose credibility in the market place.

My advice to Bloody Decks Readers, invest your time reading something  in a worthwhile site, there are lots of them out there, go find one!

It’s All Happening Now, Fantasy Fishing Returns to PV, The Bite is on

It’s All Happening Now, Fantasy Fishing Returns to PV, The Bite is on

Where just a few days earlier the fishing was adequate on the full moon, things have exploded since then. With more than abundant bait available in the Fishing Grounds off the front porch of Puerto Vallarta you will find World Class Sportfishing. Whenever you hear a fishing story about Puerto Vallarta, they are talking about this time of the year. If you are here in PV by accident, it’s a happy one. If you are here to hunt Monster Yellowfin, good timing! If you are still on your ¨DUFF¨, get it in gear and make the excuses to the wife after you get back! Hotels are cheap, Airfares are cheap (especially from Canada), and with a group of four guys, you can go out fishing for two 12  hr days, fifty miles out on a world class boat and crew for less than five hundred dollars a person! Now no whining, get up and make it happen amigo. You may never get this chance again… Oh, for the record, I take no responsibility for actions I have incited! But feel free to blame your momentary lapse of sanity on my highly motivational words, whatever! No go do it!

This has been a hard season to call with the strange weather patterns and the formation of tropical storms and Hurricanes off our coast t his year. It must have looked like a weather circus out the there and trust me the year is not over as yet. Strange currents, warmer than preferred water temperatures, and a noticeable lack of some species still have us scratching our heads. But it looks like whatever is happening out there, it´s helping the fishing.

The season has been short on Dorado or Mahi Mahi, which ever you prefer… But the word is they ´re finally here in larger numbers and larger sizes running anywhere from 20 to 35lbs. Nothing HUGE now but fun and more plentiful every day. Punta Mita, El Morro, Marietta Islands, you´ll find them. If you find a log or something favorable floating you’ll have a Dorado day to remember. Mostly in the 25 lb range, they´re keepers for dinner. But the numbers look like they can be dwindling, hopefully not, but always, always, always throw the females back!

Sailfish are moving in stronger by the moment. Punta Mita, Marietta Islands, El Banco, Corbeteña, they will take a lure, live bait, your car keys with a hook, they don´t seem to care much the last few days…. These guys are right on time and will be here long after the first of the New Year.

Looking for Black Marlin, well you won’t be looking long, they will find you. The word is out on the Black, Blue and Striped Marlin that will be our resident species for the rest of the year into the first week of January. Marlin are mostly in the 350 to 700 lb range. But several have been released much smaller in the 250 lb range and some even in the larger ranges in excess of 800 lbs! Now these are big fish and these fish are hungry.  Water temperatures are running in a perfect range of 82 to 84 degrees which only makes conditions for other species like Wahoo more favorable and some have been boated the last few days. So go for it if you have the itch!

Last but not least the Yellowfin Tuna are showing up a little better than they have the last few weeks. Running from 50 to 160 lbs with many over 200 lbs being brought in the drought seems to be over and hopefully they’ll just be more plentiful and larger. Again, take what you need and don’t over keep. One 200 lb Yellowfin can feed an army for a week, so remember this. Look for water temperatures, if running warm, use down riggers. If birds are surface diving, make a bee-line to it! Remember not to run over anyone’s lines, been having a lot of this problem with other people rushing in lately……  The Yellowfin were a little slow for a few days as mentioned earlier in the article, but they have moved to the surface and hopefully we won´t have to run downriggers again. Many have broken out their kits since the Yellowfin are surface feeding again. But no worries if your kite hasn´t arrive just yet because like we mentioned, surface trolling is working just fine for the moment, why get fancy if you don´t need to? With the tournament season moving into gear now, you have a chance to catch things as good as they´ll get. No special baits or tricks required, just get something shinny in front of them and that will do the job! But if you want to throw some hundred dollar Black Barts at them, then go ahead. But a six inch diamond jig or just a cedar plug (remember those) will do the trick on the cheap amigos!

Every October all the Captains declare they are superman when it comes to boating Black Marlin. They are measuring their ¨Manhood’s¨ on the docks and to impress clients into thinking he is super Captain as well. But Captains who come in with Excess Dorado, Excess Rooster Fish, Excess any fish, are hurting the industry and you should remember to let the captains know of what you want. If they do not do as you wish, after all you paid for the boat, then do not tip them. You just subsidized their fishing business with your catch.  They act stupid or are quick with the club, let them know what you want. And share this stuff with everyone you meet. You can even stand on the docks and let the world know of what happened. But don´t be part of the problem amigos…  The more fish in the bay, the better it is for all of us!
