11 01 2014 Bill y Wendy No 4 , Magnifico, Group Fish MBTextWe all know that predicting what will happen in the world or Sportfishing is almost impossible. Now we can tell you what happened yesterday and what we ¨think¨ will happen tomorrow, but in the end we´re just throwing out a best guess when targeting gamefish. The only thing that balances out fishing predictions is if it happened ¨there¨ yesterday, it could still be happening ¨there¨ today. Of course you´re always disappointed when you visit yesterdays spot and your targeted fantasy fish is nowhere to be found. What is exciting is when you catch a species that you didn´t expect and right now that´s Yellowfin Tuna. That´s right, I used the ¨YF¨word, but it´s far from automatic amigos, but the chance is there!
11 01 2014 Hewett and Reiner party MBTextAnyone who knows fishing in PV knows that if you want big, world class fishing, you have to be at either Corbeteña or El Banco (or anywhere in between), both are our famous deep water, deep sea star fishing grounds. Especially at this time of the year when anything impossible can become possible as screaming reels announce ¨Fish On¨. As mentioned earlier El Banco has shown ¨some¨ signs of life in the form of Yellowfin tuna in the 100 to 150 lb range. So you have a chance, how much of a chance you may ask? Well if you`re in the area the chances improve. Black and Blue Marlin, mostly Blue Marlin are also around the area running anywhere from 350 lbs to over 800, just depends on your luck. And for the present Dorado in the 35 lb range are moving into the area as well. With Rainbow runners, Cubera Snappers and Sailfish, there isn´t many species you don´t have a shot at right now! Oh, if targeting Yellowfin, make sure you´re using a kite, keep that between us!
11 01 2014 Yellowfin Tuna 60lbs off El BancoCorbeteña is about the same, Yellowfin Tuna have arrived and the numbers are picking up by the minute. Still the Sailfish, Marlin, Dorado and Snappers  should also catch your attention. Corbeteña is a little cheaper trip, a little closer and for my money, may be a better choice for the next ten minutes or so.  Decisions, Decesions!
If you´re around the Marietta Islands there is finally some signs of life with some, I said some Rooster fish in the area, tons of Bonito 20 to 45 lbs, Needle fish in the 40 lb range. Maybe a slight shot at Dorado. But Sailfish are close to El Morro and I see no reason why they´re not closer to the Marietta Islands, but there you are. Heading out towards Corbeteña trolling, Blue Marlin have been hanging out around the area, so being in the area is the first requirement amigo! Now if you´re in the area off the point off Punta Mita, you´re still boating Sailfish and Dorado, nothing new since it´s been like this all summer. If you´re looking at only 8 hrs, then these two places will get you some arm burning action.

11 02 2014 Mike Profita Party, Guanatuna II, 8 hrs MBTextInside the bay is great with massive amounts of Bonito, Skip jack Tuna to 50 lbs around Yelapa still, Needle fish, Jack Crevalls are here as well and they´re primarily a winter fish. Sailfish are still being boated by the lucky few in the bay, to me this is unusual, but lately it´s been kinda normal.. go figure.
So you pretty much can´t lose when it comes to fishing for the time being. Water temps are slightly cooler, but not cold. Northern water temps around California are dropping quickly so we´re expecting to see Yellowfin Tuna numbers pick up for the late season, same for Dorado. With this being an El Nino year, our fish have been vacationing in Southern California so we´ll welcome them back with open arms and a gaff. Blue water and smooth seas have been the norm, but we´re always on the watch for late season Hurricanes. The full moon will be on us soon, so be aware and have some fun. One last thing, some days it seems that Dorado are only taking lures, so have some blue, silver and pink lures at the ready. Live bait is plentiful with bullet Bonito, Google Eyes, Flying fish and the list of course goes on. For the moment the bite is happening around 11:00 a.m. , so getting to the fishing grounds too early will not help  your situation. But again, the full moon is just a few days from now and the Yellowfin especially will be using the moon light to full advantage stuffing themselves with abundant bait.  Another piece of  useable ¨reel time¨ fishing information that can make a difference in your fishing safari amigo!

233648W5_NL_smNewsletter Extra:
Many of you find I post these same articles in the local news papers and the busiest web pages in PV.  They post my articles a little late and that´s the reason I send these ¨Reel Time¨ fishing reports to the locals. This is information you will be glad you have if you´re heading fishing in the next couple of days…  Hurricane Vance is marching north and will be well outside of Puerto Vallarta, so don’t panic. But it will pass us and this could put some rough seas on us as well as some stormy weather. Now the mountains that surround PV protects us and we´re happy for that! But the track is looking like Cabo will be at the end of it´s track. There is a low pressure front coming down from the north which could push the system inward.  For now we´re seeing calm seas and blue water.  It may also be nothing, but then again, it´s something to keep an eye on if scheduled for a fishing charter in the next few days. Below I show some information as to it´s tracking and systems that are working.

Nov. 4th Update: Magnifico went to Corbeteña, it was smooth seas in the morning, but in the after noon the wind and rain picked up, got windy and the sea´s picked up in size and frequency. But now Hurrican Vance will make landfall before 10:00 a.m. Wednesday Morning, so the storm is on a fast track to the mainland! I have boats scheduled to head out tomorrow morning, Wednesday, keep your fingers crossed.

11 02 2014 John Curcio, MiJenny, Marietta Islands 400 pxls MbTextWhales:  Normally Whales don´t show up until December, but we´re already seeing Whales moving into the area.  Magnifico spotted two today, one with a baby already! This means we need to be watchful for whales just under the surface, fast boats can easily hit a Whale, I´ve done it, it´s not pretty!  Also remember if you´re chasing whales around the bay

As we march into tourisms high season, fishing is still at peak performance with perfect conditions all over our world famous fishing grounds of Corbeteña and El Banco. Blue water, plenty of bait varieties and enough fish to support weekly local tournaments and sport fisherman alike. It´s simple, get on a boat, get to the Marietta Islands, drop baits and lures, head towards Corbeteña or El Banco and get ready for the action to begin amigo. It´s summer fishing in paradise and it´s time for you to get your share!

Once again this week we´ve seen no rain as the rainy and Hurricane season comes to an end. This of course means the Trash Line is mostly a thing of the past, but that doesn´t mean there isn´t great fishing around the bay of Banderas. Bonito are still all over the bay running 25 to 35 lbs, perfect bait size for Sailfish and Marlin. Jack Crevalls, a winter species is still in the bay in nice numbers. Yellowfin Tuna Footballs around Yelapa, Sailfish around La Cruz to Punta Mita, with 20 lb Dorado all over the bay. For the visiting Angler who is looking to catch something for the dinner table, then you´re in luck amigo. Give yourself a six hour trip to make sure you get a chance to find that arm burning action. Remember, fish move and they have most likely changed location from the day before, so give yourself some ¨looking time¨ unless of course they know you´re coming, then that´s another thing!

The area around the Marietta Islands have been on the slow or dead side now for weeks, but this doesn´t mean these normally reliable fishing grounds can`t spring to action. Sailfish and Dorado can be in the area, but they´ve been mostly out of the area towards the deep water locations. El Morro has had Sailfish action and is more reliable, but once you´re in the area, drop baits and start trolling outwards from the bay. The farther you move out from the island area the more likely you´ll boat a Sailfish, Blue Marlin or Dorado in the 25 to 35 lb range. Any day now we´ll see this area explode with action again, but that day is not today amigo, other areas are more attractive for now and I wouldn´t spend much time here unless you see bait balls in the area.

Punta Mita is all about Sailfish and if you can find any floating trash or logs, then you´ll be in Dorado City. The area around Sayulita seems to be a recent hangout out. No guarantees, but if you´re heading to the Marietta Islands, then take a few minutes and try out the point.

As is normal in Summer the best fishing grounds are either El Banco or Corbeteña. It´s been like that forever and this week is no different. Marlin anywhere from 250 to 800 lbs are possible, Black or Blue, they`re both hanging out. Sailfish are all tournament winners, Cubera Snappers to 60 lbs for the bottom fishing types. Yellowfin Tuna are not exactly on tap, but there have been some strange incidents where 100 lb Yellowfin have been boated. For the most part Yellowfin Tuna will be between 25 and 40 lbs around the High Spots in El Banco or at Corbeteña. No promises you´ll boat a nice Yellowfin tuna, but you have a ¨chance¨. Ten hour trips are what the doctor is ordering these days to Corbeteña, El Banco is a little farther and the possibilities of a thousand pound Marlin is always there. If you´re fishing and you want it world class, then you need to be in these two areas.

With perfect blue water, plenty of Flying fish, Skippies, Goggle Eyes and bullet Bonito, there is no shortage of choices for the local species. Now that we´re out of the worst of Hurricane Season there is no reason to believe the fishing will take a turn for the worse until after the New Year´s Holiday season. So make your vacation plans to go fishing now, we´ll be waiting to hear from you.

One thing for sure, when it comes to fishing what happened yesterday is no guarantee it will happen again tomorrow. Fishing is Fishing and as long as fishing is fishing, then it´s going to be fishing, which is the reason we don´t call it catching (I bet you re-read that a couple of times). Those who jumped on a boat last week expecting Yellowfin Tuna at Corbeteña for the most part came in empty handed. The sixty pounders turned into twenty five pounders, which may seem negative, but these smaller Yellowfin Tuna are perfect bait size and that is what the Marlin are chasing. Dorado are still happening at will and of course as you´d expect Sailfish have taken over. Even if the Tuna are on the sparse side, the fishing is still world class here in Puerto Vallarta.

Sailfish at Corbeteña, MasterBaiters.com.mx

There has been some definite weirdness going on this past week. Sailfish have moved farther off shore, so for the moment hanging around El Morro is not the place to be for Sails. But if you head over to the Punta Mita Point you´ll find all the Sailfish you could hope to find. Dorado are also in the area anywhere from 20 to 35 lbs. And if you have the inkling to head out a little, you will find Blue Marlin, not bad if you ask me.

Corbeteña Master Baiter´s Billboard

The Rock at Corbeteña, MasterBaiters.com.mx

Those heading to the deep water fishing grounds of El Banco and Corbeteña will find this is where the Sailfish have moved in mass. The Yellowfin Tuna as mentioned earlier are now in the bait sized range, which of course is disappointing for those looking for Monster Tuna. On the other hand, Marlin love this sized ¨bait¨ and as a result it has drawn in more Blue and Black Marlin into the area. Those heading to El Banco will see even larger Marlin and could run into the 750 lb range, up from the 250 to 550 lb range of last week. There have been sighting of larger Yellowfin Tuna around the high spots, but the hook-ups spit the hook, so no pictures, no Tuna. Dorado anywhere from 25 to 55 lbs, Cubera Snappers to 65 lbs for the bottom fishing guys with the occasional and unexpected Wahoo in the 40 to 60 lb range. Most don´t target Wahoo (known as Ono in Hawaii) since you need to run wire leader. You see Wahoo have teeth like a Ginsu Knife and will cut through your line like butter. Most boated Wahoo here in PV is done by accident, the fish will somehow hook themselves in the corner of their mouth which means if this is you, you got lucky.  For now if you´re looking to target larger fish then you´ll be heading out to Corbeteña or El Banco, good luck amigo.

225 lb Black Marlin, Corbeteña, MasterBaiters.com.mx

The Marietta Islands and El Morro are less than exciting right now. You have a slight shot at Dorado, but the Bonito and jack Crevalls, maybe some Snappers. All and all, nothing in the area for the moment that will grab your attention.

Inside the bay with the lack of the Seasonal Rains (as rainy season comes to an end) we are not getting that beautiful trash line. Still, there are small Dorado in the 15 lb range, Bonito everywhere, Yellowfin Tuna Footballs around the Yelapa area again, possible Sailfish in the La Cruz Area (who knows why) and a wealth of possibilities around the structure and rocks. If you´re lucky enough to be around the river mouths, you still have a shot at nice Snook (Robalo in Spanish). They´re great tasting and for the person looking for a short day where you come in with something for the dinner table, then do as the locals do. They don´t have to be huge to be fun and dinner table worthy!

Dorado with different markings at Corbeteña, MasterBaiters.com.mx

Dorado with different markings at Corbeteña, MasterBaiters.com.mx

One last thing, remember the female Dorado are all full of eggs. If you keep the females, then you´re just hurting the future of fishing in the area. When it comes to Sailfish, or any Billfish, there is no reason to bring in six for pictures. If you´re captain kills the Sailfish and Marlin, don´t tip them. If you are fishing inside the Tres Maria Islands, anywhere inside the twelve mile limit, even if you are on a paid charter boat, you´re a POACHER. It´s time we started thinking conservation in Mexico for future generations and for ourselves as we are ultimately responsible for the actions of the crews we´re paying for (subsidizing actually). If your crew keeps killing Billfish and you told them not to, they won´t listen to you. You see, you just took $150 usd out of their pocket for every Sailfish from fish markets. Now this is illegal, Charter boats are not commercial fishing operations, but when nobody enforces the regulations, then there are no regulations. Have fun, but be aware, you have the power of the tip and your return business.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It´s funny, the first day of October was like a cosmic fish cornucopia and out came massive amounts of Sailfish, Black Marlin, Dorado and yes Yellowfin Tuna in the 60 lb range. The water is a perfect blue, bait is abundant, the Trash Line is doing its magic and the bite is on. It´s Prime time for fishing amigos and if you ever doubted that Puerto Vallarta was a world class fishing area, all you have to do is get on the water and let the humidity melt those doubts as you down another beer, YeHa!

There are presently fish everywhere, pick a spot, take a shot. If you decide to start in the bay, you´ll find the Trash Line is doing its work and Skip Jack Tuna, small Dorado and a host of other species are lining up to feast on this organic trail mix, it´s an all you can eat fish smorgasbord that washes down the mountains and pours into the bay. Skip Jack tuna in the 15 to 25 lb range are all over the Yelapa area, Sailfish sightings and hook ups are not exactly automatic, but you have a solid chance in a six hour day of hook-ups with one of the finned fantasies. Snook at the river mouths and we even still have Jack Crevalls filling in the list. Short on Doe, not much time to go, then the bay will do the trick ¨fo-Sho¨. . .OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Heading out to the Marietta islands, one mile off the rock of El Morro or so you´ll find a sea full of Sailfish and smaller Dorado in the 25 lb range. It´s that time of the year where the Sailfish populations explode as we lead into the Pez Vela Tournament (Sailfish Fishing Tournament in English). In fact it´s so easy to get a Sailfish strike you´ll get tired of reeling them in. Not unusual to have five Sailfish strikes a day now in this area stretching out to Corbeteña.

Speaking of Corbateña, considered by many to be one of the top fishing grounds in the world with its varied abundant species you can´t go wrong at the rock right now. Starting with Black Marlin in the 250 to 500 lb range, the sizes of these world class gamefish will increase as we move deeper into October. World record sized Sailfish in the 45 kilo or 110 pound range are thick. Yellowfin Tuna in the 50 to 75 lb range are moving in nicely, but the bite with them has been a little weird as they were slow to take baits. Dorado in the average range of 35 lbs with occasional bulls weighing in at over 50 lbs. Cubera Snappers for the bottom fishing guys in the 45 lb range with Rainbow runners possible. Located thirty five miles out from Marina Vallarta, it will take you about two hours to get to the Rock, but once there your chances of boating a world record sized fish is not unthinkable amigos. Take the ten hour day and keep a bucket list memory in your mental hard drive. El Banco, ditto. Just remember if you´re looking for the large, huge fish, El Banco has it´s days. So toss a coin, they´re both on fire, El Banco is showing signs of some larger Black Marlin, so it´s a decision for the your morning discussion and plan development with the Captain!

Punta Mita, all I can say is AH Chihuahua. . It´s turned into Sailfish Central. Dorado are around any floating debris like a log or clump of weeds or even floating refrigerators. If you find a buoy, you hit the jackpot! If you´re around Sayulita and the Anclote Reef, then you´ll find all the arm burning action you could imagine.10 02 2014 Karl & Marlise Vitture 75lbTuna 600 pxls MBText

As far as fishing conditions go, you can´t beat them, water temperatures are in the perfect range of 86 degrees, 84 in the bay. Abundant Skip Jacks, Bonito, Google Eyes and Flying fish or 4 to 8 inches insure that we´ll have fish in the area and frankly I don´t understand why it took so long for these fish to find us again! The water is blue, close to shore it´s dirty as you would expect from the rain but it´s not very far from shore. Yes there seems to be a lot of ¨trash´ in the bay, that just means you go a little slower heading out to the fishing grounds, but this trash is necessary amigo. The bite is anywhere from 8:30 a.m. to after 10:00 am and in the afternoon after 1:00 p.m. and live bait is king, but run a petrelaro lure for the heck of it.

We´ve waited for it, and now we have it. Big fish, perfect conditions, plenty of bait and the weather is holding. Water temperatures are not too hot and they’re not too cold, they´re prefect. If this is your first time visiting or hearing about the fishing in Puerto Vallarta then you´re in for a real experience. Boats are available and waiting for your business, just find Marina Vallarta, walk the boardwalk, enjoy the Yachts and fishing boats, have a nice dinner and tell your friends. Well it´s finally here, High Season for fishing here in Puerto Vallarta which coincides with October 1 which is the official beginning of High Season for tourism in PV as well. The summer is all but over, the kids are back to school, Tourism is picking up as you would expect and the fishing is incredible. Yellowfin Tuna have pulled back a little, less available these days, but the Black Marlin are filling the void. Dorado have moved in at all the fishing grounds and not any too soon. Water Temperatures are perfect, the water is as blue as you could ask for, when it comes to fishing in Vallarta, if you´re lucky enough to be here, then you´re in the right place at the right time amigo. Fishing in Puerto Vallarta is as good as it will get and if you´re a serious fisherman and this doesn´t excite you, then you´re dead!

Those looking for Yellowfin Tuna right now missed the boat from last week when they were circling the Rock and the High Spots. For now it looks like they´re ¨somewhere else¨ but they´ll be back. With bait thinning out in the area with Bonitos and Skippies at the deep water locations the larger fish will be in these areas. That is how the fishing cookie crumbles, but we´ll be ¨baking¨ more shortly… stay tuned.09 26 2014 Shaun Fieldler, Magnifico, Bay Dorado 8 hrs, 650 Pxls MBTxt

As you have probably seen we had a serious Hurricane pass Puerto Vallarta, the Cabo Corrientes Mountains knocked the stuffing out of the storm as it was close to shore and the mountains are a natural barrier that protects Puerto Vallarta. So PV is fine, Cabo, that´s another thing. Fish fleeing the storms were pushed into the area, finally and as a result there are 200 lb Yellowfin Tuna at Corbeteña and at El Banco (no room in the title to say that part, ha ha). To cut to the chase in the first paragraph of this article, everything you could possibly want to catch is in our World Famous Fishing Grounds Right Now! You locals have waited for it, you deserve it and the season has finally arrived. Fishing here in Puerto Vallarta is hot, smoking hot and that could be an understatement. Abundant bait fish in the water, perfect blue water, perfect water temps, abandoned fishing grounds, I mean if you sat down and wrote what your perfect fishing day would be like, this would be it. Big Fish Return to Puerto Vallarta and it´s about time, YeHa!
